Selecting Better Pets

After we started thinking more seriously about expanding our family, my husband brought up the idea of getting a pet or two. While I was completely against the concept at first, I realized that it might be helpful for our children to warm up to the idea before having another sibling. We got a dog and our kids were tasked with the job of feeding it every day and doing other tasks, and it was amazing to see how much the animal helped our family to grow. Pets can be a wonderful addition to a home, which is why I made this blog. Check out these fun pet posts.

What You Need When Walking Your Dog

Natalie Baker

You have a dog and you know that walking your canine friend is essential to their overall health and well-being. Your dog is going to be a much happier, healthier companion when you do what you can to keep your pooch exercised and socialized. When you walk your dog, you should have certain supplies with you to make the experience more exciting and safe for everyone. Here are things you need for when you walk your dog, whether you just walk your canine friend around the neighborhood or you take them to a dog park on the regular.

Waste pouch

You can buy a portable dog waste pouch to store the fecal deposits of your canine friend. This way, no matter where your dog goes to the bathroom, you can easily scoop up the mess and keep it in a safe area until you can deposit the waste in an appropriate trash can. You can buy these units at your local pet supply store; speak to a pet store specialist to learn more.

Harness

It's often easier to walk your canine with a harness than with a traditional leash. A harness allows you to have more control of your dog, which is helpful in the event your canine tries to run away from you or inadvertently gets distracted by another dog or other creature. A harness is safer than a traditional dog collar in that it doesn't restrain your canine from its neck, but rather around its shoulders, and you are able to have greater control over your dog without choking the animal in the process.

A harness can have a portable dog waste pouch attached to it so you can avoid having to carry this pouch yourself and keep both hands free for walking your dog. Consider a harness with reflective markings on it to further make your experience walking your dog safer.

Water and food dishes

It's wise to have food and water dishes for your dog, just in case your pet needs something to eat or drink or you find yourself out on a walk longer than you'd expect. Along with these dishes, keep a pouch with food on your person and a small bottle of water.

Your dog supplies can be found at your local pet supply store. You can keep most of these items in a small bag that you can wear. Keep dog waste pouches supplied with small waste bags for more sanitary disposal.
