Selecting Better Pets

After we started thinking more seriously about expanding our family, my husband brought up the idea of getting a pet or two. While I was completely against the concept at first, I realized that it might be helpful for our children to warm up to the idea before having another sibling. We got a dog and our kids were tasked with the job of feeding it every day and doing other tasks, and it was amazing to see how much the animal helped our family to grow. Pets can be a wonderful addition to a home, which is why I made this blog. Check out these fun pet posts.

Tips For Caring For A Toy Breed Puppy

Natalie Baker

Toy puppies may be small in size, but they make up for it with extreme cuteness and enthusiasm. People opt to add toy breeds to their family for a number of reasons, such as space, saving money on dog food, or because small dogs tend to live longer than larger breeds. Some people just fall in love with a specific type of toy breed and love the temperament of the breed. No matter why you're choosing to get a toy breed puppy, it is important to be prepared for when you bring your new dog home. Use the following tips to help you care for your new toy breed puppy.

Get the Right Size Crate

One of the easiest ways to toilet train a puppy is through crate training. This is especially true for toy breeds, many of which are known for being a little more difficult to housebreak. Since dogs are den animals, the crate will serve as a den in your home. The reason why crate training is effective is that dogs do not go to the bathroom in their dens. When it comes to crate training a toy breed, it is essential to have the right size crate. Make sure that you get a dog crate that will be big enough so that your puppy will be able to stand up in it and to turn around in it, but that will not be so large that they can use a corner as a restroom.

 Select Puppy Food

Before you bring your new puppy home, you will need to buy the basics, including dog food. When shopping for dog food, you will need to select a formula developed specifically for puppies. In addition, you will need a brand of food that is labeled for toy breed dogs. A toy breed puppy will have a very small mouth, so you need to make sure that the kibble that you buy is small in size so your pup can eat without any issues.

Be Extra Careful with Your Puppy

Adult toy breed dogs are very small, and a toy breed puppy is tiny. When your dog is little, you will need to be extra careful with them to ensure that their little body does not get hurt. Make sure that you closely supervise your puppy to ensure that they do not get stepped on or sat on by a family member. Something like this could cause very serious injuries in a tiny toy breed puppy.
