Selecting Better Pets

After we started thinking more seriously about expanding our family, my husband brought up the idea of getting a pet or two. While I was completely against the concept at first, I realized that it might be helpful for our children to warm up to the idea before having another sibling. We got a dog and our kids were tasked with the job of feeding it every day and doing other tasks, and it was amazing to see how much the animal helped our family to grow. Pets can be a wonderful addition to a home, which is why I made this blog. Check out these fun pet posts.

Tips To Becoming A Dog Boarder

Natalie Baker

If you absolutely love dogs in all shapes and sizes, you may want to think about becoming a dog boarder. Dog boarding is when someone hires you to care for their pet while they are away instead of taking them to a big business. There are many different companies and organizations that help independent dog boarders get going, some of which are almost like an Airbnb for pets. If being a dog boarder is something that you think you would like to do, here are a few tips on how to get started.

Doggieproof Your Home

No one will trust you with their beloved pet if they walk in and see that your home is not a safe environment for them. Before inviting other dogs into your home it is crucial that you go through and remove anything that they could get in trouble with, like how you prepared your home before bringing home a puppy. Once you have done this, you should designate some space where boarded dogs can play, sleep, and eat without interfering with the regular order of your home.

Make a Plan

Before you start accepting invitations to board someone's pet, you should make a business plan and then stick to it. For example, if you do not live in a very large home, you may want to limit the number of dogs you accept or the sizes of those dogs. You can make a plan to watch just a few big dogs or several small dogs at a time. Some dog boarders also refuse to watch puppies or require an additional fee since they require so much extra attention. Whatever you choose to do, make a plan, and do not vary from it.

Don't Get Overwhelmed

Taking on the responsibility of watching someone's pet can be overwhelming at times. Especially when they destroy or damage your property. However, new pet-boarders should take each day one at a time, recognizing that they are gaining experience and will become better after each dog they board. Practice makes perfect in the hospitality industry.

In conclusion, a dog boarding business can be as big or as small as you want it to be. You do not have to board 12 dogs at a time to make a little money watching your favorite animal.
