After we started thinking more seriously about expanding our family, my husband brought up the idea of getting a pet or two. When you take your dog to a standard groomer, they often put your dog in a crate until it is their turn to be groomed. If you stay, you will have to keep your dog with you on a leash during the wait time. With free-roam grooming, your dog is not kept in a crate but instead is allowed to roam free while they are waiting for their turn.
Types of Free-Roam Grooming
Groomers set up their free-roam grooming establishments in different ways. Some section off a large area of their building for the dogs. If so, they may only allow a certain number of dogs to be there at one time.
Some free-roam groomers set up an area outside for the dogs to run and play while they wait. If so, the area will be fenced in and secure so you will not have to worry about your dog getting out. No matter how they do this, toys are often provided to keep the dogs busy.
You will likely be required to show the owner proof that your dog has been vaccinated. Get this information from your vet if you do not have it. This will include their yearly rabies shot in many cases.
